Red Hood is a complex and often morally ambiguous character appearing in DC Comics. He is primarily known as the resurrected Jason Todd, the second character to take on the mantle of Robin, Batman's sidekick.
Jason Todd was initially portrayed as a troubled youth, differing greatly in personality from the first Robin, Dick Grayson. He was ultimately killed by the Joker in the storyline, "Batman: A Death in the Family."
Years later, Jason Todd was resurrected via the Lazarus Pit. This experience fundamentally changed him. He returned to Gotham City adopting the persona of the Red Hood. This character first appeared in *Batman* #635 (February 2005) as part of the "Under the Hood" storyline.
As Red Hood, Jason Todd embraced a far more violent and ruthless approach to crime-fighting. He frequently clashed with Batman, whose moral code he felt was insufficient to truly protect Gotham. Red Hood utilizes lethal force, making him an antagonist as well as a vigilante.
